More Orphans Adopted!

Image
Things just keep getting better and better in Buen Hombre, and we at Chaba's are proud and honored to be at the center of it all!  Thanks to the media exposure we've received from our dear friend and community residents Pedro and Sara Gonzalez, more and more tourists from "afuera" as we say (that means outside of the Dominican Republic) have made their way to Buen Hombre, packed our Inns, B & B's and restaurants. Through their stays they've experienced our community and most importantly our children, our orphans.  We're so excited to announce several more adoptions have taken place, sometimes taking 2-3 children at a time!  CORANI, (Consejo Regional Para La Ninez y Adolecenscia) the Regional Council for Children & Adolescents, has set up an office in our town to spearhead the safe, sound, and affordable adoption of our remaining orphans! The blessings keep coming! Jose & Patrica Merinda adopted Jocelyn, and Frank & Steven Boyer adopted twin...

Maria Got Adopted!

Image
We're high-fiving and celebrating in Buen Hombre! Our sweet Maria, who we've seen running around with all the other orphaned kids just got adopted!!  Apparently, she and the Gonzalez family met, in the oddest way.  Maria fell asleep in a hammock on their back porch one day, after wolfing down a whole pot of Sancocho (Chicken Stew)!  God works in mysterious ways doesn't he?  We were so happy for her that we threw her a party! Look at that face! Blessings!

Overnight Fish Camp!

Image
Our community has got to be the most close knit community on the island, heck, even the planet!  Several families, including our own, came together to sponsor an overnight fish camp for the community kids!  Our newest resident Pedro, helped gather tents, lights, and sleeping bags for everyone. Guess who else was there?  Maria and all her friends!  They had a blast!  Juan, the Chief Fisherman took the kids out to fish at night, and they even got to see the bio-luminescent water.  Apparently, Maria caught a huge Parrot Fish!   The kids got to sleep in tents, thanks to Pedro, and they got to keep them!   Fishing boats heading out for night fishing...

New Families in El Barrio! (The Neighborhood!)

Image
Chaba's Seafood Restaurant thrives thanks to Dominican city tourists who are called to our gorgeous coast line, scenic views, and of course, delicious locally sourced seafood!  Well, it looks like our little sea-side town and Chaba's might be placed on the international map.  Rumor has it we have a new resident in town; Pedro Gonzalez, Writer, Photographer, Film Maker, and Author .  How lucky are we!   Pedro and his wife Sara and daughter Sarita recently moved here from the United States!  If you see them walking around town, make sure you say hello and give them a warm welcome!  Oh! Be sure to follow Pedro on Twitter!

Feeding Orphans in Our Community

Image
Chaba's Seafood Restaurant, locally known as Chaba's, has been a staple of Buen Hombre Beach for decades.   Started in 1968, by our Mother Chabela,  Chaba's has always looked after the orphaned children of Buen Hombre.  Sadly, there is a small population of orphaned children here due to the influx of Haitians crossing the border fleeing poverty and oppression. They work with the fisherman helping with the daily catch, wash cars for tourists, and sell whatever trinkets they can.  Their ages range from as little as 7 all the way up to 18.  They're a family, and take care of each other.  Maria, the one in the white shirt, tends to be the leader among them, the Mother figure for all the others.  You can tell she's a leader by her stance, right? So, every week, we round them up on a Friday evening for a feast!  Mama Chaba loves children, and has always taken every opportunity to feed and clothe the...
